The heralded Vanguard University Concert Choir made a spur-of-the-moment visit to Crossroads Assembly of God in Barstow on Wednesday night, treating attendees to the church's 6 p.m. service to an inspiring evening of music.

The Costa Mesa university's choir, under the direction of Dr. James L. Melton, was passing through Barstow on its way back from its Spring Tour.

The choir has gained nationwide attention in recent years, performing at such renowned venues as Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center. It also has performed at Times Square Church, St. John of the Divine, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the U.S. Naval Academy.

The choir has recorded five CDs, including its most recent, "Magnificient and Holy." Its inspiring range of music includes traditional, classical, sacred, praise and worship, and Contemporary Christian.

Crossroads Assembly of God surely was blessed to witness such an incredible performance by the Vanguard students.
