VICTORVILLE — The 31-year-old Newberry Springs man accused of meeting an 11-year-old girl on an online dating site and having sex with her at a local motel pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, court records show.

Jeffrey Tyler Minter appeared in a Victorville courtroom Friday and answered the charge, stemming from his arrest on Jan. 25.

Minter is due to appear in court again on Monday and his preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 8, court records show.

Barstow police detectives arrested Minter after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter was the victim of a sexual assault.

Officers interviewed the victim, who reported that she had met a man on the Internet while visiting an adult dating site. The victim told officers that she agreed to meet sometime in January.

The girl reported she was picked up at her home and taken to a local motel, where she had sexual intercourse with the suspect, authorities said.

Authorities said the investigation revealed further evidence corroborating the victim's statement. The girl was also able to positively identify Minter as the suspect from a photographic lineup, authorities said.

Minter was arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and oral copulation with a child.

Minter is being held at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto in lieu of $250,000 bail, booking records show.
