BARSTOW — Marcie Winfrey was the winner of the Greater Hope Foundation's inaugural gingerbread house contest on Friday afternoon.

Winfrey's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was among six entries. Daniel Zamora and Carolyn Guevara finished second with their "Charlie Brown Christmas" entry. Janeen and Olivia Silva took third with their "Frosty the Snowman" entry.

Robin Waugh ("Shrek the Halls"), Elyssa Simpson ("Candyland") and Christina Richards ("A Charlie Brown Christmas") were the other contestants.

"We wanted to open it up to the whole community," Office Manager Barbara Pitts said. "It didn't manner age, it could be one person, a family, or whatever. It was just for fun, but we decided to give prizes to first, second and third."

Pitts said Greater Hope Foundation hopes to promote the contest more next year and hold it on Gingerbread House Day.
