The College Spot: Fall Registration in swing at college
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Registration for the fall semester is in full swing and there’s no better time or place than your local community college to take classes for a trade or vocation or to simply brush up on basic skills. New maintenance director
The college welcomes Dwight Calloway as its new maintenance and operations director responsible for the grounds maintenance, custodial services, machinery, plumbing and A/C system, and college safety and risk management. Dwight has 20 years experience in management and 34 years in maintenance. His future plans include expansion of the Desert Demonstration Garden complete with desert, native, semi-native and home zeroscape garden ideas, expansion of the walking trail and working toward transforming BCC into a green campus that includes the production of less trash, the use of recycled products (furniture and carpet) and energy conservation (wind and solar).
Summer hours
Barstow Community College has commenced its summer hours for the month of July. During this time, college offices will operate a 4/10 work schedule, open Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Fridays. This includes the library and the Learning Resource Center. Most services, such as registration, class schedules, community service classes and more, can be obtained from the college’s website, www.barstow.edu.
Cosmetology program now serving clients
The Cosmetology Program, which returned to the Barstow campus in fall 2007, is now taking client services. Services available at a reduced rate compared to professional salon services include manicure, pedicure, hair cuts, shampoo and styling, hair coloring, hair augmentations and braids. During July, client services will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Regular hours for client services, 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday, will resume in August. Services are available for women, men and children. For appointments, which are recommended, please call 252-2411, ext. 7238.
‘Wonder of the World’ auditions
The Performing Arts Department at BCC will hold auditions for its fall production of, “Wonder of the World,” August 18 and 19 at 6 p.m. in the Interim Performing Arts Center. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and open to adults of all ages. Callbacks and additional auditions will be take place on August 19. “Wonder of the World” written by David Lindsay-Abaire, is a zany adult comedy. For additional information, please call 252-6702.
