Cannoli is a sweet treat at Krazy Bakes opening
BARSTOW • Erin Stevens and her mother Linda, made a trip from Yermo to try Barstow’s newest bakery.
Krazy Bakes had its soft opening on Tuesday, and by 11 a.m. the cannoli was a sweet treat for many.
Stevens, 25, and her mother walked out of the bakery with a cannoli in hand and half a dozen of Krazy Bake’s gourmet cupcakes.
“This cannoli is really good,” said Stevens after biting into her pastry. “It’s nice and sweet — it tastes amazing.”
Owner Joyce Armstrong said one of the first customers of the day was a woman from New York who was excited because she got to eat her first cannoli in over four years.
Armstrong said she started the morning with 12 cannolis and by 11 a.m., the bakery was down to four.
Although the cannoli was the most popular item to start the day, the sugar free items were also selling.
When Stevens ordered her half dozen cupcakes, she made sure to order two sugar free for her diabetic brother. Armstrong was inspired to sell sugar free sweets because of her 10-year-old nephew who was diagnosed with diabetes in April.
Stevens said the sugar-free pastries, taste of the cannoli and the “very welcoming and friendly” atmosphere of the bakery will make her return to satisfy sweet cravings.
“The staff here is really friendly and also very helpful,” Stevens said. “I really love the vibrant and bright colors. I really like the kid’s corner with the chalkboard. It’s different than any other place.”
Armstrong said the grand opening will take place later this month, but does not have an exact date picked yet. Krazy Bakes is located in the shopping center where Family Dollar is located on the 1300 block of East Main Street.
