Vacant home fire called suspicious
No injuries, $10k in damages
BARSTOW • A weekend fire in a vacant two-story home is being called “suspicious” by local fire officials.
“It’s a vacant and secured building with no electricity and gas to the building,” Sal Corrao, assistant fire chief of the Barstow Fire Protection District, said Tuesday. “Someone probably broke into it and accidentally or intentionally caused the fire.”
Eleven firefighters, including some from the Marine Corps Logistics Base’s Fire and Emergency Services Division, responded to a single-family residential property Sunday afternoon on the 600 block of West Buena Vista Street.
“Most of the damage was to one room,” Corrao said. “It was a two-story house and we don’t know how much of the flooring was affected.”
The fire, which caused roughly $10,000 in damages, was controlled in approximately 20 minutes, according to a BFPD news release.
No injuries were reported.
