Big sale at senior thrift store
Barstow Senior Center Thrift Store, 929 E. Williams St., is having a big sale on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A five piece bedroom set is featured (headboard, two nightstands, six drawer dresser and mirror) for $199.
The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St., will be serving a steak dinner on Friday at 6 p.m. Dinner donation is $10 and includes baked potato, salad, dinner roll, vegetables and dessert. Events at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., will be offering the following programs Friday: The Mojave Valley Carvers get together from 8 to 11 a.m. The United States Post Office will be selling stamps from 10 a.m. to noon. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp, broccoli, salad, roll and Craisin Crisp. Bring a partner and join Don Livingston from 6 to 7 p.m. for couple western dance lessons. Music and dancing by Don Livingston will be offered from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Admission donation $5. And bring your favorite dish to share. The Barstow Senior Thrift Store, 929 E. Williams, is an amazing resource for getting great, high-quality, unique and inexpensive clothes and other household items, and the Furniture Specialty Store, 907 E. Williams, have great bargains also. Open 7 days a week with senior discount day on Wednesdays (Seniors receive 50 percent off except furniture). ‘The Hope Hut’ blowout sale
New Hope Village is pleased to announce managing the “The Hope Hut” building, 404 E. Mt. View, at First United Methodist Church (behind the water towers at Mt. View and Barstow Road). A blowout sale will be held on Friday and Saturday and again on Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon. There are file cabinets, couches, love seats, recliners, desks at $25 each. Stuff a bag of clothing for $5 for two bags. VHS and cassette tapes 4/$1, paperbacks 10/$1, hardbacks 4/$1, albums $ each, knickknacks 4/$1, Christmas decorations 4/$1, shoes at .50 each, household items $1 each, lamps and misc. chairs $5 each. St. Paul’s Academy enrollment

Karaoke at the American Legion in Newberry Spring #751 will be held the first and third Friday of each month from 7 to 11 p.m.. On Saturday at 9 a.m. join others hikers for an easy/moderate 8-9 mile hike from Van Duesen Canyon Road to Cushingbury Pass, all on the Pacific Crest Trail. This is a great hike through some of Big Bear’s finest hiking areas. Be sure to bring 2-3 quarts of water, sturdy boots and lunch/snacks. Meet at 7:30 a.m. at the BLM parking lot on south Barstow Road across from the entrance to Barstow College. Bike/car wash and family fun day for Autism
O.U.R. Network will be hosting a bike and car wash and family fun day for Autism on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Purdy Clean Car Wash and Storage, 2185 West Main St. This event is to help raise funds to purchase at least 10 iPads that will be donated to Cameron School in Barstow, CA and Cascade Elementary in Lebanon, OR. The O.U.R. Network is a group of small business that come together to help provide Opportunities that Unify and Rejuvenate the community. This event is sponsored by Central Oregon Truck Company and several local businesses in Fort Irwin and Barstow (i.e. Barstow Flower and Bridal, Chosen Ryderz MC, Trimmers, Tanalye Tanning Salon, Daily Stop and Firestone). There will be several vendors on site offering several services, carnival games for the kids, balloon art, and music. Come out and help raise funds. The location for this event will also be a drop off location for the annual School Supply Stack Up where donations of school supplies will be accepted, that will be distributed to local schools within the High Desert.
Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs, will hold bingo the first and second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play starting at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The more in attendance, the bigger the jackpots.
Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots.
