Barstow's Steven Locke Jr. was named the SCIAC's Defensive Player of the Year.

Barstow's Locke honored by SCIAC

REDLANDS • Earlier this month, Barstow High School graduate Steven Locke Jr. was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Year. 

The 6-2, 250-pound defensive end helped lead the University of Redlands football team to an undefeated 2013 conference championship and its second NCAA playoff appearance in his four years playing for the U of R Bulldogs. 

Locke finished the 2013 season with 59 total tackles, 4.5 quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and six pass break-ups. This was after totaling 48 tackles, including 14 solo hits, the previous season as a junior. During his collegiate career, Locke was selected to the 2012 SCIAC First Team All-Conference Defense and was named as a USA Football Network pre-season All-American. 

Locke is majoring in Psychology at the University of Redlands.
