MORE begins 2014 race circuit Saturday
BARSTOW • Off-road racing season is here once again, as the 2014 season is ready to begin for the Mojave Off-Road Racing Enthusiasts race circuit.
MORE starts the season Saturday with the Transaxle Engineering Challenge, set to take place in Lenwood off Outlet Center Drive. The MORE circuit will run seven races in 2014.
“Last year was a decent year,” MORE Vice President and Race Director Cody Jeffers told the Desert Dispatch in December. “Every race he has anywhere from at least 50 participants for the small races, to up to 130 entries in the bigger races.”
The MORE racers will meet from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday night at the Slash-X Cafe on Barstow Road.
The race begins at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, and the racers will be back at the Slash-X Cafe at 5 p.m. for the award ceremony.
Winners for the 2013 season included Class 1600 champion Ryan Golson, Class 1400 champion Ryan Aguis, Class 9 winner Jimmy Taranto and Class 10 winner Kathy Kirkmeyer.
“Each class runs a different number of laps,” Jeffers said. “The bigger, more expensive, faster classes run the most laps.”
“Your lowest class is a class 11, and it is pretty much a stock Volkswagen bug,” Jeffers said. “They only run like two laps, much shorter distance. (Classes go) all the way up to an unlimited vehicle, where you could spend $300,000 on your race vehicle and there basically are no rules. You just have to conform to the safety rules.”
