Annual wine auction scheduled for Saturday
BARSTOW • An annual wine auction, the Kiwanis Club of Barstow Crossroads' biggest yearly fundraiser, is scheduled for Saturday.
Money drawn in by the event will fund most of the local community organization’s yearly service projects, according to Elaine Villareal, club secretary.
The club recently gifted Barstow Unified School District crossing guards with eight new handheld stop signs equipped with flashing LED lights, earmarking funds for them through the auction.
The club’s regular projects include: “Books for Kids,” providing every first grader in Barstow with two books; “Clothes for Kids,” where 40 children in need are taken shopping for coats, shoes and other items; and “Bicycle Safety Rodeo,” where children participate in a safety course and receive a free helmet afterward.
Ten bicycles are also given away at that event.
The 8th Annual Wine and Goods Auction is slated to be hosted at the Hampton Inn, 2710 Lenwood Rd.
According to the event flyer, the 6 p.m. auction will be preceded by a wine tasting at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $25 per person.
Event-goers are encouraged to wear a Halloween costume and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed.
