Multi-purpose room dedication for retired Lenwood teacher
Hansard began tenure at school's onset in 1956
BARSTOW • Barstow Unified School District officials are expected to pass a resolution Tuesday dedicating the Lenwood Elementary School multi-purpose room in honor of retired long-time teacher, Margaret Hansard.
The recommendation is being formally presented by BUSD Superintendent Jeff Malan on behalf of Lenwood teachers, staff, parents and Principal Cari Mauldin, according to the district’s school board meeting agenda.
Hansard began her tenure with Lenwood Elementary when it first opened 57 years ago, in 1956.
She served as either a teacher or lead teacher between Sept. 1, 1956 until her retirement on June 11, 1992 and then as a substitute teacher until June 2010, according to the agenda.
She is currently a daily volunteer at the school.
“Margaret has been an integral part to the success of students at Lenwood Elementary since the school was built,” Malan said Monday. “She has been the most dedicated individual. Her volunteer work continues to help students and, it goes without saying, she is whole-heartedly deserving of this recognition.”
A dedication ceremony is tentatively planned for November.
