Lady Aztecs romp over 'rabbits

VICTORVILLE • The Barstow girls soccer team earned its second victory of the season on Tuesday, taking a road win from Victor Valley, 6-1.

The Lady Aztecs did well in the first half, scoring twice, the first goal coming just 1:59 into the match, to lead at halftime. In the second, the floodgates opened up, as the Barstow offense found the back of the net four times.

“We pretty much controlled the game,” said Barstow head coach Frank Maldonado. “We passed and controlled the midfield very well.”

Lexyss Aviles was the offensive standout, picking up a hat trick of goals, while Alyssa Sanchez scored twice, and Nayeli Zapata, once. Zapata also had an assist, Sanchez had two, and Hannah Ramirez also assisted on two of the tallies.

“Our forwards worked together very well, and Hannah really controlled the middle,” said coach Maldonado.

Rikki Woodcock scored the lone Jackrabbits’ goal, with about five minutes left in the first half. Barstow keeper Yessica Morales made three saves for the win.

The Lady Aztecs’ records are 2-0-3 overall, 1-0-1 in the Desert Sky League. Barstow will be at Adelanto today, and at the Oak Hills Tournament on Saturday.
