Big rigs overturn on I-40, I-15
NEWBERRY SPRINGS • The High Desert saw three separate traffic collisions involving tractor-trailers on Monday.
A truck traveling on Interstate 40, near Newberry Springs, overturned into the center divider and blocked both eastbound lanes at approximately 9:48 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol logs. A witness told authorities they saw the tractor-trailer weaving across the lanes before overturning across both lanes, according to CHP incident logs.
Traffic was diverted off at Fort Cady Road as crews worked to clear I-40. The No. 1 lane was opened at approximately 12:23 p.m., CHP logs show.
The cause of the collision or the driver’s condition was unknown, as calls to the Barstow area CHP were not immediately returned on Monday.
Two additional incidents involving tractor-trailers caused major delays on southbound Interstate 15 near Stoddard Wells Road in the Victorville area on Monday morning, including a collision between two tractor-trailers and a separate incident an overturned meat truck.
One person was airflifted with unknown moderate-to-major injuries, but no other serious injuries were reported in the crashes.
