Director of Hi Desert Meals on Wheels program retires
Barstow Senior Center still providing food due to a lack of funding
VICTORVILLE • The director of the cash-strapped High Desert Meals on Wheels program retired Thursday, less than four months after the group’s president resigned.
The departure of Program Director Lin Staley comes on the heels of financial turmoil for the nonprofit organization that provides meals to local senior citizens.
In August, the Adelanto and Victorville sites became dependent on the Barstow Senior Center to provide food due to a lack of funding.
“We’ve had some problems,” said President Ray Gray. “Barstow is still providing food.”
President Chuck Smith resigned in June, Gray said.
High Desert Meals on Wheels has been able to keep its community centers in Adelanto, Victorville and Hesperia open five days a week, but the organization is now searching for a replacement for Staley.
Calls to Staley and to the Department of Aging and Adult Services were not immediately returned Friday.
