Eason reinstated as Senior Center president
BARSTOW • Jeff Eason Sr. has been reinstated as the president of the Barstow Senior Center after going on administrative leave for nearly two months during a theft investigation, a center official said.
Eason was placed on leave Oct. 16, when Barstow police began the investigation.
“On Oct. 16, we initiated an investigation in reference to an anonymous (tip) about someone or some persons from the Senior Center taking property for their personal use,” Barstow Police Lt. Mike Hunter told the Desert Dispatch on Nov. 27.
Eason is back as president of the center as of Friday, according to an email from Senior Center Vice President Wil Adams.
The investigation, according to Eason, involved $3,000 in cash missing from a bingo fund, a “junk” refrigerator and a washer-dryer unit.
Eason told the Desert Dispatch on Nov. 27 that he was not sure if he would return to his post at the Senior Center if proven innocent.
In regard to the missing cash, Eason said $2,000 was used as a backup fund for bingo, and the rest of the cash was placed in a center-operated bank account. Discrepancies in the records were due to a bookkeeping error, Eason said.
Attempts to reach Eason and Adams for further comment were unsuccessful Tuesday.
