President Obama should be impeached and removed from office

Thinking it Through

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. – U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 4

No satisfactory or authoritative definition of “high crimes and misdemeanors” has been rendered, so this clause, in the absence of treason or bribery, has been read as denoting a loss of public trust in our nation’s chief executive.

Twice the House of Representatives has impeached a President, neither of whom was convicted in the Senate. Another President resigned because his removal was imminent. Today President Barack Obama should be impeached and removed from office, but Presidents Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon were in jeopardy for far less serious offenses.

Johnson vetoed the Tenure of Office Act, Clinton lied about his sexual trysts with a White House aide, and Nixon covered up the misdeeds of his burgling underlings. By contrast, Obama was utterly derelict when the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya came under attack by armed terrorists last September 11.

Nobody died when Johnson, Clinton and Nixon aroused Congressional wrath, but four people died needlessly when, following clear signs that an attack was likely, a mob of Islamic extremists laid siege to the temporary quarters of Ambassador Christopher Stephens. Tellingly, it was the eleventh anniversary of the Islamist airplane attack on targets in New York City and Washington, D.C.

Johnson covered up nothing, Clinton and Nixon covered up tawdry and felonious deeds, but Obama has covered up criminal malfeasance regarding an attack comparable in importance to the rebel firing on Fort Sumter. But whereas President Lincoln rose to the challenge, President Obama has attempted to take refuge in dangerous illusions about the nature of our Islamic enemy and thereby has put America at perpetual risk of more attacks.
Obama is guilty of considerably more than bad judgment. His soul-based dishonesty exceeds even malfeasance in office. The man has sought to “transform” our nation not merely because he misunderstands its founding principles and Constitution but rather because he holds both in contempt.

It has been plain for years that Obama rejects the idea that America is an exceptional nation, instead apologizing to our enemies for our alleged arrogance and abuse of power in international relations. He ignores the fact that ours was the first nation in history to lay its foundations in the natural rights of human beings and the first with a written Constitution.
The United States sacrificed 600,000 lives to defeat an attempt to nationalize slavery, thereby emancipating millions of slaves. It fought in two world wars to end German and Japanese imperialism, and a Cold War to prevent Soviet domination of the world.
But because Obama denies that radical Islam is the primary source of terrorist attacks throughout the world, he left Americans exposed to the attack on Benghazi.

Today witnesses will begin testifying before a House committee about what really happened when a mob attack that Obama’s lying machine tried to pass off as a protest against a pathetic anti-Muslim video stormed the U.S. consulate. Finally, we will learn the truth from those who were rescued by former Navy Seals who lost their lives.

If, following damning testimony, the House of Representatives passes a resolution condemning the Obama Administration, or even indicts the administration for “high crimes and misdemeanors,” it will be based on the following facts (and undoubtedly more):

• The Administration ignored numerous acts of violence in Libya (even as the British elected to leave the country) and rejected requests to tighten security.

• The Administration refused to provide assistance the night of the attack, even though Task Force units were available in Italy.

• President Obama was absent without leave during the attack and even attended a political fund raiser in Las Vegas that night and gave a campaign speech in Colorado the following day.

• Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice went before all television networks to spin the false story that a video outraged Muslims whose peaceful protests escalated into violence.

• The Administration commissioned an in-house “investigation” that continued the cover-up and interviewed no one above the level of State Department underlings.
The nation will soon know the full extent of the misdeeds of the Obama Administration. It should know that the causes spring from sources far more sinister than a desire to avoid responsibility. He who does not love America cannot defend her.
