Karate instructor Pugliese receives award

PITTSBURGH • A local karate instructor was recently honored by receiving international recognition.

Linda Pugliese is a 7th degree black belt who teaches karate through Barstow’s Park and Recreation program. On the weekend of Nov. 15, she traveled to Pittsburgh for the Global Award Leadership Conference, a three-day event. Numerous martial artists of all styles attended from all over the world, including athletes from Ireland, Germany and Russia.

All inductees and attendees enjoyed training, instruction seminars, and forums. The training itinerary was presented by experienced instructors from around the world, and the open forum gave all martial artists the opportunity to share and participate in the training seminars.

Pugliese attended with her first karate instructor, Grand Master George Annarino from Newark, Ohio, to be honored by the Eastern USA International Martial Arts Association. The ceremony was a black tie event, with each recipient receiving an engraved award. Pugliese was honored as Female Fighter of the Year, while Annarino received the Inspirational Martial Arts Example award.
