Fourth annual Mojave River Trail Days set for weekend
HELENDALE • The Helendale Community Service Department is hosting the fourth annual Mojave River Trail Days on Saturday and Sunday, benefiting the Happy Trails Children Foundation Cooper Home.
Civil War encampments and re-enactments, blacksmith demonstrations, arts and crafts and a cattle drive are among the western-themed events set for the two-day celebration.
The HCSD anticipates this year’s event will draw more than last year’s estimate of 1,000 visitors, according to Virginia Woolley of the HCSD.
“We’re hoping to bring the community together so that people can come celebrate the history of Helendale and enjoy entertainment for the entire family,” Woolley said. “We started this event for the community and we have been pretty successful in drawing the people from out of the area.”
Duke Michaels and Charlie Ray are among the featured musical acts, and former Cirque du Soleil performer and trick roper Will Roberts is also scheduled to perform.
A poker tournament hosted by the Spring Valley Lake Lions Club is also scheduled.
According to Woolley, there will be free stagecoach rides and a kids area featuring a bounce house and games. For the adults, there will be a beer garden hosted by the Sheriff’s Posse.
The event will take place at the Helendale Community Park, located at 15425 Wild Road, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission for the two-day event is $6, and one-day admission is $4. Kids 12 and under are free.
