Local drivers race in Midnight Special
LUCERNE VALLEY • Last weekend, M.O.R.E., Mojave Off-Road Racing Enthusiasts, teamed up with S.N.O.R.E., Southern Nevada Off-Road Racing Enthusiasts, to stage the Midnight Special race, held in Lucerne Valley.
Many local racers took part, with the highest placing being taken by Tom Craig, who was second in the 1600 class. Kyle Vizzo was the next highest-placer, finishing fourth in the 900 class, while Wayne Ellis was fifth in the 1400 class. Ellis gained three points for his showing, closing to within five points of 1400 class leader Ryan Aguis. Aguis will hold that five-point edge over Ellis going into the last race of the season in December, the Holiday 200, which will determine the class championship.
Other local racers who took part were Mike Brown, who placed seventh in class 900; Brandon Heald, ninth in class 900; Harley Young, 13th in class 900; Ricky Johnson, 13th class 1450; Shane Brown, 13th class 1600; Cody Jeffers, 16th class 10; and Matt DePue, 16th class 1450.
G-Out racing, sponsored by Nathan Ellis of Barstow, was pleased to give away cash winnings to the first place drivers of three separate classes, 1400-1600-900. The cash bonuses were determined by the top class sales supported from the purchases of the G-Out Racing t-shirts. The sales were held at Slash X the day prior to the race on contingency row.
Ellis of G-Out Racing also wanted to thank the local businesses who supported the race: Del Taco, Oak Hills Brewery, Route 66 Guns & Ammo, Ellis Fence, Furniture Outlet, Unique Landscaping, Lee Folden, Treasure House Mall, Diamond Pacific, DiNapoli’s Firehouse, JDR Construction, Conversion Firestone, Gesiriech Realty, and City Tire & Towing.
