SCE: About 500 customers lose electricity due to lightning strikes
BARSTOW • A damaged transformer left the Desert Dispatch office and a neighboring Del Taco restaurant without power Monday and Tuesday.
About 500 Barstow households experienced power outages Monday due to scattered thunderstorms that affected more than 350 locations in Southern California Edison’s service territory. SCE spokeswoman Nancy Jackson attributed the outages to lightning strikes.
Other customers had their power restored, but the Desert Dispatch and Del Taco remained without power for much of Tuesday.
Power at the Desert Dispatch went out at approximately 3 p.m. Monday. Jackson did not know the exact reason for the failure but speculated that it could be weather related.
Barstow Mayor Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre said the power outage has not affected business at Del Taco, located on 1310 Mountain View Street, because the restaurant receives power from a generator.
Hackbarth-McIntyre said everything was running smoothly, and the business had been running on generator power since 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
