Lenwood Club back in action
LENWOOD • Lenwood School’s Lenwood Running Club hosted a meet against Cameron School last Friday.
A total of 70 boys and 54 girls from the schools’ running clubs competed in the one-mile race on the Lenwood School grounds. The runners were divided into four groups: 4th-6th graders made up the arsity boys and girls divisions, while 1st-3rd graders made up the junior varsity boys and girls divisions. The top five boys and girls from each division received medals after the race.
The top five runners across the finish line in the boys varsity race were all from Lenwood. Taking first place was fifth-grader Jalen Griego, who finished with a time of 6:25, with sixth-grader Elias Ramirez just behind in second place with a time of 6:31.
The rest of the top five was fifth-grader Isaac Sanford (6:40), fourth-grader Max Rodriguez (6:47), and fifth-grader Lerenzo Dominguez (6:48).
In the varsity girls’ race, Cameron sixth-grader Lissette Escobido crossed the finish line first, with a time of 7:03. In second place was Lenwood fifth grader Macii Griego, with a time of 7:40.
The rest of the top five were all from Cameron: sixth-grader Samara Henderson (8:13), sixth-grader Teigan Mendibles (8:47), and fourth-grader Daisy Pacheco (9:05).
It was all about Lenwood in the JV races. Third-grader Sinnue Linares took first place for the JV boys with a time of 7:06, and Jessie Lara took second place with a time of 7:27. In third place was third-grader Leo Saiz (7:30), while third-grader Ezekiel Dominguez and first-grader Micah Gray tied for fourth place (7:36).
The girls JV race was won by third-grader Jasmine Ortega, with a time of 7:58, with fellow third-grader Megan Griego second with a time of 8:51. In third place was first grader Haylee Fjeld (9:05), with second-grader Adelina Starr (9:17) fourth, and in fifth place was first-grader Saydiie Gray (9:30).
Many parents from both schools came out to support the runners and to help with the race. The running club coaches are planning two more races in November, one at Cameron School and one at Robert A. Sessions Memorial Sportspark.
