Peace Breakfast

NARFE meeting
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1564 will meet at Sizzler, 1523 E. Main St., on Monday at 6 p.m. Guest speaker is pending. Updates on current congressional actions affecting health, retirement, and other retiree benefits are provided for consideration. Parental Alienation support group
Joshua Rose Foundation is starting a support group to provide education, support and coaching for parents who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships with their children due to parental alienation. This includes violation of court orders, refusal of visitation, blockage of contact and other tactics that interfere with the parent child bond. Softball Sign-ups
Sign-ups are also upcoming for Barstow Little League Softball, for girls ages 6-16. Sign-ups will be held on Mondays Jan. 16, 23, and 30, and on Wednesdays Jan. 18, 25, and Feb. 1. All sign-ups will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., at Sizzler , 1523 E. Main St. in Barstow. The cost is $75 per child, with the second child at $70, and three or more at $65 each. A $5 discount for the first child will apply at the Jan. 2 sign-up only; a $10 late fee will be charged at the late sign-up on Feb. 1. Proof of age and three proofs of residency are required. Auditions for upcoming BCC production
Barstow Community College’s Theatre Arts Department will hold auditions for its upcoming spring musical production “Thirst For Life.” Auditions will begin Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Interim Performing Arts Center. Additional auditions and callbacks will take place the following day, Wednesday at the same time and location.
Auditions will require individuals to prepare a contemporary song. Genres can include Broadway, Rock, Pop, or Country. You will need to sing with a track. No A capella auditions, please. There are roles for teenagers and adults. So put your acting and singing skills to the test, and come out to participate in this audition.

Taco Tuesday
The American Legion Auxiliary #324, will be serving $1 hard shell seasoned beef tacos, at the American Legion Hall, 2181 Armory Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. Open to the public. U.S. Veterans Support Group
The U.S. Veterans Support Group will meet today at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Home-Barstow in building F. The group was organized to help all veterans, current and former military, as well as their families. Anyone may join the group including civilians. There is a nominal annual fee of $5 per family. The group is a 501(c) (3) tax exempt organization as established by the U.S. government. Any and all donations are welcome. Meetings are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month. Compulsive Overeaters Anonymous/HOW

Site tour of hospital project at Fort Irwin
On Wednesday, officials from the National Training Center and Fort Irwin, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District’s Commander, along with project managers and staff will be providing a brief overview of the replacement hospital project. Due to contracting restrictions, specific questions about the project will not be answered at the meet and greet, but will be taken and answered on the fedbizops.gov/Projnet.org website after this event. The site tour will allow a chance to walk and look at the project construction site. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Cora Harper Center, 814 Barstow Road with the program starting at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., as will networking. At 1:15 p.m., participants will be transported to Fort Irwin, valid photo I.D. is required, and the site walk takes place at 2 p.m. Return to Barstow will be around 3 to 3:30 p.m..
