Ramos to be inducted into VVC Alumni Hall of Fame
VICTORVILLE • The Victor Valley College Foundation is set to induct 3rd District Supervisor James Ramos as the 2013 Alumni Hall of Fame inductee.
Ramos, who represents Barstow, will be inducted at the 23rd annual Victor Valley College Alumni Hall of Fame and Distinguished Service Awards celebration on Feb. 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in Victorville.
“I am truly honored to be inducted into the Victor Valley College Alumni Hall of Fame,” Ramos said. “Earning my college degree opened up doors for me I never thought possible. I hope I can continue to encourage others to pursue higher education regardless of the obstacles they face in our community and unlock the many opportunities higher education can offer.”
Ramos, who was recently unanimously voted Vice Chair of the San Bernardino Associated Governments Commuter Rail and Transit Committee on Jan. 16, graduated from VVC with his associate’s degree in 1994, according to a news release from the college foundation. Ramos went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in 2002 from California State University San Bernardino and an MBA from the University of Redlands in 2009, the release states.
A member of the San Manuel Indian reservation, Ramos was appointed by the Governor to the California State Native American Heritage Commission in 2008 and became the first Native American elected to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in 2012, according to the release.
Each year, the foundation invites the community to nominate candidates for its annual awards and then recruits a panel of community leaders who make the official recommendations to the Foundation’s board of directors.
The Victor Valley College Foundation raises funds to help the college provide support for educational programs and student scholarships, according to the release.
The Alumni Hall of Fame and Distinguished Service Awards is one of the Foundation’s primary fundraising activity.
