Ramirez brings home silver and gold

DALLAS • On June 28, 11 year-old Isaiah Ramirez, the sole competitor from the Barstow Judo Club, traveled to Dallas to compete in the 2013 USA National Jr. Olympic Judo Championships, held at the Irving Convention Center.

Over 900 Competitors from throughout the United States were entered in the tournament. Ramirez finished as runner-up in the Boys 38 kg Division, and took home a silver medal.

Ramirez then traveled to Pittsburgh, PA and competed in the USJF/USJA Jr. National Judo  tournament, held on July 5 at the Robert Morris University Gymnasium. In this tourney, Ramirez defeated all of his opponents and captured the gold medal. He has won his division in this tournament for six years in a row. 

For these latest accomplishments, Ramirez was promoted to purple belt by his Sensei/teacher, which is the highest rank possible for his age. Ramirez is now preparing for competition in the USA Jr. Open to be held in Florida.

Ramirez is trained by 8th degree black belt holder, Ernest Smith.
