Dinner at the VFW
The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St., will be serving a steak dinner on Friday 6 at 6 p.m. Donation costs will be $10 a plate. Dinner includes baked potato, dinner roll, salad, vegetables. Events at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., will be offering the following programs Friday: Mojave Valley Carvers from 8 to 11 a.m. Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Baked fish, rice pilaf, broccoli and apple crisp. Bring a partner and join Don Livingston from 6 to 7 p.m. for couple western dance lessons. Music and dancing by Don Livingston from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Admission donation $5. And bring your favorite dish to share. Please help out The Barstow Senior Center while doing your part to keep cell phones out of the landfill. The Center is accepting old unused cell phones. Drop boxes located at, the Center, Senior Thrift Shop, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Rosita’s, Humane Society, and Superior Supplements & Source. The Barstow Senior Thrift Store, 929 E. Williams, is an amazing resource for getting great, high-quality, unique and inexpensive clothes and other household items, and the Furniture Specialty, 907 E. Williams, has great bargains also. Open seven days a week with senior discount day on Wednesdays. Seniors receive 50 percent off on except furniture. Also if you would like to make a donation, call 760-256-0755, and they will pick up.
The 1st Congregational Church, 224 N. Second St., is having a rummage sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. It is the annual “Half Price” sale. Every single piece of merchandise is half price. The ladies have plenty of bags just waiting to be filled, so come on down and stock up!
Kids day in Newberry Springs
On Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., the Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, will be holding a free kids day with water games and prizes for children 12 and under. Flip flops and towels are a must. Hot dogs will be served to the kids. For information, call 760-257-3580.
Meet and greet at American Legion Post 324
A meet and greet barbecue will be held on Saturday, for elected and appointed officers from the Legion, Riders and Auxiliary to members. All members and their guests are encouraged to attend. The barbecue will be from 5 to 8 p.m. and include hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, potato salad, pasta salad, and dessert. For information, call 760-252-8369.
Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots. Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs, will hold bingo the first and second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play starting at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The more in attendance, the bigger the jackpots.
