‘The Hope Hut’ blowout sale
New Hope Village is pleased to announce managing the “The Hope Hut” building, 404 E. Mt. View, at First United Methodist Church (behind the water towers at Mt. View and Barstow Road). A blowout sale will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and again on June 29-30 and July 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. There are file cabinets, couches, love seats, recliners, desks at $25 each. Stuff a bag of clothing for $5 a bag. Events at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., will be offering the following programs on Friday: Please help out The Barstow Senior Center while doing your part to keep cell phones out of the landfill. The Center is accepting old, unused cell phones. Drop boxes located at, the Center, Senior Thrift Shop, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Rosita’s, Humane Society, and Superior Supplements & Source. Game day. The Mojave Valley Carvers get together from 8 to 11 a.m. Lunch from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Ham, sweet potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, roll and pears. New activity: Music and dancing from to 3:30 p.m. with Garland Dittman. Come share the afternoon listening and dancing to music from the oldies to country. The Barstow Senior Thrift Store, 929 E. Williams, is an amazing resource for getting great, high-quality, unique and inexpensive clothes and other household items, and the Furniture Specialty Store, 907 E. Fort Irwin to host Cali Swag Car Show
The National Training Center and Fort Irwin will host the “Cali Swag Car Show,” on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free event is produced by Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, which is the military installation’s program, and open to High Desert communities to participate and attend. This year’s car show is sponsored by GM Military Discount.
This year there will be 16 categories of cars ranging from kids bike, classic import and export, and even a worst clunker class. The event will include food, music, a skate boarding tournament, 3-on-3 basketball, and video games. For those wishing to enter their cars into the car show, the early entry fee is $15 and $20 the day of the event. Democratic Club meeting
The Mojave Desert Democratic Club will meet Saturday at Quigley’s Restaurant located near the Merchant’s Mall in Lenwood. Breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m., the meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Highlights of the meeting will be: Analysis of June election results. Impact of new “open primary” system. Good election performances by Jackie Conaway and John Coffey. Impact of state funding cuts on necessary services. Critical performance of maximizing voter turnout. Evaluation of Obama administration performance. Status of employment, housing and economic recovery. Reports on Democratic Party activities on the city, county, state and national levels. American Cruisers Motorcycle Club will host a spaghetti dinner for the Barstow Veterans Home Fund on Saturday from 4 p.m. until gone. The dinner will be at the Eagles Lodge, 513 E Main Street. AARP Driver Safety Class

Ice Cream Social
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., is hosting an ice cream social sponsored by Elder Haven on Saturday June 23 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Cones from $1 to $3 and root beer floats for $3. Come show your support to Elder Haven and the wonderful work they do for community and assisting in helping out our elderly.
Join the Desert Discovery Center, 831 Barstow Road, for a Mid Summer Arts Fest celebrating the artistic talents of the local desert community with an art exhibition and performances of music, dance and drama plus a host of kids activities and family fun throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Festival is a great opportunity for local artists to exhibit their artwork to the public in the form of photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media, and other visual arts.
Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots.
