Dinner at the VFW
The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St., will be serving a spicy chicken dinner on Friday at 6 p.m. Donation is $6 a plate. Dinner includes baked beans, biscuit, coleslaw. Come on down and enjoy a home cooked dinner and enjoy the music. Donation helps support Veterans causes. For information, call 760 253-2610.

Karaoke at the American Legion in Newberry Spring #751 will be held the first and third Friday of each month from 7 to 11 p.m.. Everyone is welcome to come down to sing, dance, be entertained and simply have fun. Food will be available from the kitchen. All funds raised go to support veterans services and programs. Master Composter meeting
Desert Discovery Center, 831 Barstow Road, will host the Master Composter meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Guest speaker will be Shirley Wolcott, who will be speaking on “Preparing for fall and winter gardening”. Please bring your own lunch. For information, call 951-265-8699 or

Courageous simulcast
Celebrate the Father’s Day weekend with the team behind the movie Courageous. First Baptist Church, 1320 Barstow Road, will be hosting the Men of Honor Simulcast from the creators of the movie Courageous on Saturday from 9  to 11 a.m. Coffee will be served at 7:30 a.m. and breakfast at 8 a.m. For information call 760-252-2949.

Flag retirement ceremony
AMVETS Post 311 will be performing a flag retirement ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the Barstow Veteran’s home, 100 Veterans Parkway. The ceremony will take place near the flagpole in from of ‘A’ building. Also on Saturday, the American Cruisers Motorcycle Club will host a Father’s Day Bike and Car show. The event is open to all bikes and cars and there is no cost for entry. There will be people’s choice awards, veterans award, music, food, vendors, drawings, and more. Kiwanis Club of Barstow Crossroads Amazing Race
When watching the Amazing Race on TV, have you ever wondered how you would fare in such an elaborate race? Kiwanis Club of Barstow Crossroads is offering a chance for teams of two to compete in their own version of the Amazing Race. So you think you know the town? Try getting around with elaborate puzzles, clueing you into different stops in Barstow and the surrounding area. Each stop will have an obstacle or task that must be completed before you get the clue for your next destination. Time is of the essence and the first team to crack the clues and finish the obstacles will win a first place prize of $300. A drawing for additional prizes will be given at the end of race. We encourage teams to wear comfortable shoes and cool clothing. Water will be provided at various stops, but a smartphone or camera can greatly increase your chances at winning. The race will be held on Saturday. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and race  at 8 a.m. and ends no later than 1 p.m. Teams will consist of 2-person teams. There is a $50 entry fee per team, when registering before June 16. If registering on day of race, the entry fee will be $70 per team. Art club
Main St Mural will be hosting a Saturday art club at the Desert Discovery Center, 831 Barstow Road, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donation of $1 per child and $ per adult suggested. Paint is supplied. For information, go to

Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots. Saturday Night Cruisers
Bring your car and join the Saturday Night Cruisers every Saturday at 7 p.m. at Foster Freeze, 1580 W. Main St. For information, call 760-964-3777.

Karaoke at Eagles Lodge
The Eagles Lodge, 513 E. Main St., features Karaoke every Saturday at 8 p.m. All are welcome.

NAACP meetings
The Barstow Branch of the NAACP meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Barstow Mall, 1860 E. Main St., office #1810.


Father’s Day barbecue
A Father’s Day barbecue will be held at Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Sunday. The meal will include baby back ribs, baked beans, Cole slaw, roll, dessert and beverage. Donation is $10 for adults, $5 for the kids. Members, show your card at the door for a $1 discount. Serving starts at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Father’s Day breakfast at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., will be hosting a Father’s Day breakfast, Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. Eggs cooked to order, sausage, country potatoes, biscuits and gravy, waffles, juice, coffee for $7.50  and  children under 12 is $4. Pay at the door.

Fathers Day breakfast
American Legion Post 751, 30916 Newberry Road, will be serving New York steak with eggs, hash browns and biscuits and gravy for a donation of $7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Sunday

Knights of Columbus, 580 Victor St., will offer bingo every Sunday at 5 p.m. For information, call 760-252-4885.
