Council to finalize bus stop project
BARSTOW • The ongoing construction project at Rimrock and Montara will be discussed Monday night, as the Joint Special Council/Barstow Fire Protection District meeting will take place at City Hall at 7 p.m.
The council will vote on a recommendation to award a contract to James DeArmond Construction, Inc. to purchase and install 24 bus stops around the city, most of which will be located on Rimrock Road.
The proposed plan will install the 24 bus stops, most of which will be benches with shelter, along 14 spots on Rimrock Road, five stops on Montara Road, three on Armory Road and two on Broadway Ave.
The City Council will also vote on a recommendation to approve a Memorandum of Understanding with San Bernardino Associated Governments regarding more than $2 million of unspent funds accrued by the city in the Public Transportation, Modernization, Improvement and Service Enhancement account program.
The city has accrued $2,232,701 in unspent PTMISEA funding over the last several years, and on Nov. 6, the SANBAG Board of Directors approved the reallocation of the funds to pay for the bus stop improvements.
The next step in the re-allocation process is the City Council’s pending approval of the Memorandum of Understanding.
Once the council approves the memorandum, the SANBAG transportation staff has indicated that they will take the contract to the Mountain Desert Committee for approval this month, and then to the SANBAG Board of Directors for final approval March 5.
