BHS Cross Country: Aztecs' dual meet streak ends
HESPERIA • The Barstow boys team lost in a dual meet for the first time in more than eight years as Sultana snapped the Aztecs’ 78-match winning streak.
Although Barstow’s Karlon Smith won the boys race with 17 minutes, 14 seconds, his team lost 43-20. It was the debut for new Barstow coach Curtis Bell and many of the runners. Bell replaced Jim Duarte, who stepped down after guiding the Aztecs to their fourth straight CIF Division III title.
The Sultans, led by Jesse Lopez’s 17:20 and Freddy Torres’ 17:57, took second place through eighth place.
The Sultana girls won automatically as no Barstow runners showed up. Sophomore Hannah Munyan led the girls race with 18:32, while fellow sophomore Emily Harrison came in second.
