The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St. will have a Hamburger Night on Friday at 6 p.m. Four ounce burgers with fries and dessert. Dinner donation will cost $5. Events at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., will be offering the following programs Friday: The Mojave Valley Carvers get together from 8 to 11 a.m. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Baked chicken, cream peas, layered salad, rolls and fruit salad. Bring a partner and join Don Livingston from 6 to 7 p.m. for couple western dance lessons. Music and dancing by Don Livingston will be offered from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Admission donation $5. And bring your favorite dish to share.
T-bone steak night
The American Legion Riders, Chapter #324, will be cooking a “just the way you like it” T-bone steak on Friday, July 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. The meal will include salad, baked potato, vegetable, roll, and dessert. All proceeds go towards veterans, veteran families, and local scholarships.
St. Paul’s Academy enrollment
St. Paul’s Academy (7th through 9th grade) will be accepting enrollments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon, at 516 E. Williams St., or by appointment. Please call 760-256-4400 for an appointment or information. Scholarships are available. Space is limited.
Karaoke at the American Legion in Newberry Spring #751 will be held the first and third Friday of each month from 7 to 11 p.m.. Everyone is welcome to come down to sing, dance, be entertained and simply have fun. Food will be available from the kitchen. All funds raised go to support veterans services and programs. CHP gives tips for new drivers
The California Highway Patrol office in Barstow is holding a “Start Smart” class on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Anyone interested in enrolling their son or daughter, ages 15 to 20 years old, for this class can make reservations by calling the office at 760-255-8706. The class will go over traffic safety issues, such as collision avoidance techniques, the causes of collisions, driver responsibilities, local collision trends, and a viewing of Red Asphalt 5. The Barstow CHP office is located at 300 E. Mountain View in Barstow.
The Barstow Master Composters and Garden Club are meeting Saturday, in the meeting room at Barstow Sizzlers, 1523 East Main Street. Lunch/social time from 11:30 a.m. to noon, with the business meeting and presentation starting at noon. The group meets monthly and discusses group business and local gardening issues. The Hinkley Senior Citizens Club will have an ice cream social on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hinkley Senior Citizens Center, 35997 Mt. View Road (on the corner of Community Blvd. and Mt. The Barstow Fire Protection District, City of Barstow, and San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services is presenting a free basic Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training as follows: July 21 and 28 and Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Barstow Fire Protection District Headquarters, 861 Barstow Road. Class is limited to 25 persons and any person residing with-in the district may participate. Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots.
