Friday

BCC to host holiday concert

 The Barstow Community College Music Department presents their annual Holiday Concert. The event will take place on Friday in the Interim Performing Arts Center.  The performance begins promptly at 7 p.m. This year’s Holiday Concert will feature the College Choir directed by Amy Ross along with the Concert Band directed by Timothy Garvin. Christmas craft sale
The Quilters and Crafters of Concordia Lutheran Church, 410 Ave. E., will be holding a Christmas sale on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be many hand-made items that will make nice Christmas gifts.

Yard Sale
First United Methodist Women’s yard sale will be held Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be held at First United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain View. Furniture, exercise equipment, clothes, and appliances will be available.

Steak dinner at VFW
The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St., will be serving a steak dinner Friday at 6 p.m. Donation is $9 and includes baked potato, salad, dinner roll, vegetables. Come on down and enjoy your steak the way you want it cooked. Donation helps support veterans causes. For information, call 760-253-2610.

Free movie night
Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, will be holding a free movie night on Friday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and movie begins at 7 p.m. This months feature will be “Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure” (pg). All traditional movie snacks will be available for purchase.

Karaoke
American Legion Post 751 of Newberry Springs, 30196 Newberry Road, will hold regular Karaoke, plus semifinals for the ongoing competition, Friday at 7 p.m. Come on out and exhibit your vocal talents, or just hang out and enjoy a snack. Call 760-257-3173 after 1 p.m., on weekdays, or noon on weekends for information on Karaoke scheduling. Karaoke at the Post supports active duty military and veterans’ programs.

Rummage Sale

The First Congregational Church, 224 N. Second St., is holding a rummage sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. Christmas decor, very nice costume jewelry framed prints, wall mirrors, pretty glassware, plants, toys, warm clothes, books for .25 and .50 cents, and many other household goods.

Masquerade Holiday Ball
The Barstow Community College Spirit Club invites the entire Barstow community to join them for a Masquerade Holiday Ball. The event will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Barstow Community College Gymnasium. Tickets for this event are $20 for single and $30 for a couple, which includes food and beverages catered by Los Domingo’s Restaurant. There is an ASB discount of $5. Ticket prices will increase to $25 for singles and $35 for couples at the door. Tickets are available in the ASB Office. Masquerade attire is requested and masks will be sold at the event. A King and Queen will be chosen and photos will be taken and available for purchase. A raffle will also take place. The Spirit Club is requesting no heels on the dance floor. Democratic Club meeting
The Mojave Desert Democratic Club will meet Saturday, at Quigley’s Restaurant, 2841 Lenwood Road, with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and meeting at 9 a.m. Highlights of the meeting will be: drawing up a slate of candidates for the club officer election to be held at the January club meeting. Be there to participate and support your favorites. A review of the year’s events and accomplishments. Water company metering and billing problems. Refunds on sewer service billing. Reports on Democratic Party activities on the city, county, state and national levels. General discussion. Pre-holiday fellowship of club members. Gem and Mineral Show
The 36th annual Mojave Gem and Mineral Show will be held Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Cora Harper Community Center, 841 S. Barstow Road. Admission is free. Proceeds go to local scholarships. There will be gem and mineral dealers, jewelry, kids activities, lapidary arts and crafts, silent auction and more. For information, call 760-256-0595.

Sights and Sounds of Christmas
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2571 Barstow Road, will be hosting the 14th annual Sights and Sounds of Christmas on Saturday at 7 p.m. There will be performances by the Grace Notes Handbell Choir, Barstow Community Choir, Bascom Family and Friends, Gospel Haven Church Choir, Church of God in Christ Choir, Thee Islands Dancers, and much more. Also there will be a live nativity, art displays, children activity room, and over one hundred nativity scenes. Admission is free. Residents of Barstow and the surrounding communities are invited to display their crèche scenes. Bring them between noon a 5 p.m. on the day of the show.

Bingo
Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs, will hold bingo the first and second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play starting at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The more in attendance, the bigger the jackpots.

Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots. Saturday Night Cruisers
Bring your car and join the Saturday Night Cruisers every Saturday at 7 p.m. at Foster Freeze, 1580 W. Main St. For information, call 760-964-3777.

Apostolic Lighthouse Church
The public is invited to celebrate the one year anniversary of Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 35609 South St., Daggett on Sunday. Come enjoy the changes to the building and grounds. There will be an evangelist from United Pentecostal Church International, Rev. Pachal Ministry. Fashion Show and Luncheon
