BPD seeks donations for Christmas Cops and Kids

BARSTOW • The Barstow Police Department’s Police Activities League is currently accepting donations for their annual Christmas Cops and Kids Program.

According to BPD Chief of Police Albert Ramirez, officers and personnel were at Wal-Mart on Saturday collecting donations for the program.

The donations will help the Police Activities League to purchase toys that will be handed out to children of the greater Barstow area on Dec. 24, Ramirez said.

“We will deliver the toys to different neighborhoods throughout the city and surrounding cities,” Ramirez said. “We go out to the neighborhoods and hit our sirens, the children run outside and get in line to receive their toy. This program has been very successful and has grown each and every year. Seeing the smiles and laughter on the kids’ faces is what the Christmas spirit is all about.”

Ramirez said the Christmas Cops and Kids program was developed to ensure no child in the greater Barstow area goes without receiving a toy for Christmas.

Ramirez said the BPD will continue collecting money and toy donations on Saturday and Dec. 21 at Wal-Mart, located at 621 Montara Road. Money or toy donations can also be dropped off at the Barstow Police Department, located at 220 East Mountain View Street.
