City approves LED sign for Tanger Outlet Mall
LENWOOD • The Barstow Planning Commission approved Tanger Outlet Mall’s proposal to install a “state-of-the-art” LED sign to replace the existing monument sign, visible off Interstate 15.
The LED sign will measure approximately 24 feet by 16 feet, according to Economic Development and Planing Manager for the City of Barstow Gaither Loewenstein.
“This sign is similar to those which have begun to predominate throughout southern California and in Las Vegas,” Loewenstein said. “In the event that the sign is successful in attracting more shoppers off of the I-15 freeway to patronize the outlet mall the city could experience an increase in sales tax revenues.”
According to Loewenstein, the new sign will allow for photographic advertisements of the various retailers in the outlet center.
Jennifer Rodriguez, the outlet center’s general manager, is hopeful sign will help traffic off I-15. Rodriguez feels a sign this size can really help attract consumers to the Lenwood area.
Rodriguez said the outlet center is excited the planning commission approved the proposal
According to Loewenstein, the sign could be installed in time for the holiday shopping season. Rodriguez said it could be up to 60 to 90 days before it is installed.
On the road back home to Colorado, Tonya Avila and Becky Davis made a “pit-stop” in Lenwood to visit the Michael Kors outlet. When Davis and Avila traveled southbound on I-15 last week, they said they didn’t even notice the outlets.
“If there was a big bright sign up, I’m sure we would have certainly saw that and stopped here on our way to San Diego,” Avila said. “Today we just kind of saw a small sign that said Michael Kors and we had to stop. Other than that, we probably wouldn’t have even stopped here. We would have probably thought it was just another shopping center.”
Davis said thanks to seeing the store’s sign, she is going back to Colorado with a couple extra bags than she packed for her trip.
