The College Spot: Cinco de Mayo celebration headlines events for May
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The public is invited to the Associated Student Body's event celebrating Cinco de Mayo May 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the amphitheater of the Barstow campus. Dancers performing folkloric dance routines from the Barstow Dance Academy will kick off the event and food including enchiladas, rice, beans, chili sauce, chips and a soft drink for just $5. Local event speakers include Ray Perea, Fernando “Fred” Baca, and Manny Lopez. Additional information can be obtained by calling 252-2411. Ext. 7258.
Spring concert this Friday
The Performing Arts Department of BCC invites the community to their 5th annual Spring Concert on Friday, May 9, at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Featured performers include the College Choir and the Broadway Voice students.
Directed by Amy Ross and accompanied by Don Diel, the College Choir will perform a variety of songs, with genres ranging from Latin to folk, multi-cultural to gospel. The Broadway Voice students will perform their own renditions of classics as well as more recent Broadway hits. Admission is free.
Casino Night this Saturday
The Callboard Performing Arts Club will hold a Casino Night Saturday, May 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the interim Performing Arts Center. Casino Night will boast several games including Blackjack, Roulette, Keno, Texas Hold'Em, and more. The cost for game chips starts at $5. Come take a gamble and test your luck! Student Art Show through May 13
The Student Art Show continues through May 13 in the lobby of the LRC. The community is invited to peruse student works of art, including many original and creative ceramics pieces, paintings and drawings, which are also available for purchase. The LRC lobby is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. For additional information or to purchase an art piece, please call Lewis Goldstein at ext. 7246.
Commencement ceremony scheduled
The 48th commencement ceremony for graduates of Barstow Community College will take place on Friday, May 23 at 7 p.m. in the James Parks gymnasium on the Barstow campus. 425 degrees and certificates will be conferred. Cordell University and BCC graduate (class of 2004) Steven Yu is the speaker. Commencement exercises are free and open to the public. For additional information, please call 252-2411.
