Poker run, car show set for weekend
BARSTOW • Classic cars will be on display along Main Street on Saturday during the 15th annual Main Street U.S.A. Car Show.
The Saturday Night Cruisers will also hold a Poker Run on Friday in conjunction with the car show. The Poker Run will start at Fosters Freeze at 6 p.m. and riders will have to make various stops throughout the city, completing challenges in exchange for a poker card.
The car show will be held along Route 66 in downtown Barstow, closing Main Street between First Street and Barstow Road.
According to Saturday Night Cruisers president Mary Cosenza, food and crafts vendors will set up along Main Street, along with snow cones, music, a 50/50 raffle and a BBQ grill donated by Home Depot that will be raffled off.
The car show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with awards tentatively set for 2 p.m. Cosenza said all car makes and models, including motorcycles and bicycles, are welcomed to participate. The pre-registration fee is $20 fee until 9 p.m. on Friday and $25 on Saturday; Vendor registration is $25.
According to Cosenza, all the proceeds of the two-day event will go toward local charities. The group has identified charities to receive the proceeds but will consider any organization.
“Our main purpose is giving to our local charities,” Cosenza said. “Last year we gave to six local charities and also gave away a scholarship. We try to give to the charities that can really use it, but we always consider other local charities.”
Any organization interested is asked to call the Saturday Night Cruisers at 760-964-3777 or send a letter to P.O. Box 2119 Barstow, CA 92312.
