Paper operating normally; building up for sale
Status of building not to affect Desert Dispatch
BARSTOW• The Desert Dispatch office building was recently listed for sale on the commercial real estate market — but the newspaper’s operations are continuing as normal.
“Rest assured that our papers are not going away,” Desert Dispatch and Daily Press Publisher Albert Frattura wrote in an email to all employees. “We are merely becoming a more efficient operation.”
The Dispatch celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2010 and has operated in the 8,680-square-foot office building at 130 Coolwater Lane for several decades.
The warehouse portion of the building was once home to the printing presses, though printing now takes place at the offices of its sister paper the Daily Press in Victorville. The company will also be selling a circulation office in Victorville.
“There is a surplus of unused office space in both buildings, and we are looking to move circulation back into the main building in Victorville,” Frattura said. “In Barstow, we will be working with the Realtor to find us a suitable space within the Barstow community.”
The Desert Dispatch is an affiliate of Freedom Communications Inc. and reports on the Barstow, Yermo, Daggett, Hinkley, Newberry Springs and Fort Irwin communities.
