Events at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center, 555 Melissa Ave., will be offering the following programs on Friday: The Mojave Valley Carvers get together from 8 to 11 a.m. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Chef salad, tomato or clam chowder soup, roll and pineapple chunks. Bring a partner and join Don Livingston from 6 to 7 p.m. for couple western dance lessons. Music and dancing by Don Livingston will be offered from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Admission donation $5. Bring your favorite dish to share.
Women’s Conference and luncheon
Barstow Church of God in Christ, 1375 Bishop Nathaniel Jones, Jr. Way (formerly Sage Dr.), will be hosting annual Women’s Conference and Luncheon, on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. The theme of this years conference will be “ When Life Happens, What Do You Do.” Lunch and conference is $30 and reservations can be made by calling Nancy at 702-809-7515.
The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St., will be serving a steak dinner on Friday at 6 p.m. Dinner donation is $10 and includes baked potato, salad, dinner roll, vegetables and dessert. Hike in the San Gabriel Mountains
Join other hikers on Saturday for a moderate hike in the San Gabriel Mountains in Wrightwood. Meet and 7:30 at the Park and Ride on L Street (across from Home Depot) and bring 2-3 quarts of water and a sack lunch/snacks. ‘Main Street USA’
Saturday Night Cruisers will present the annual “Main Street USA” car show on Saturday in downtown Barstow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Show is open to all vehicles regardless of year. There will raffles and 50/50 drawings. Registration fee is $20 until Sept. 7. and $25 day of show. Vendor registration is $25. For information, call 760-964-3777 or 760-267-6538.
American Legion Post 751 S.A.L. will be holding a golf tournament on Saturday. Call 760-255-1303 to sign-up. A hamburger lunch with potato salad and watermelon will be available for a donation of $5.
Breakfast at Hinkley Senior Center
Hinkley Senior Citizens will have “Prepared to Your Order” on Saturday at the Hinkley Senior Center, 35997 Mt. View Road (on the corner of Community Blvd. and Mt. View Road) from 8 to 10 a.m. for $4.50 per breakfast. You may have pancakes or French toast, bacon or sausages, eggs, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, and milk. Coffee is available. Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs, will hold bingo the first and second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play starting at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The more in attendance, the bigger the jackpots.
Kids art club
Join the Desert Discovery Center art club on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and learn different art forms with the fun and creative team. Donation of $1 per child $5 per adult. Class is held every Saturday.
Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots.
