Chuck Diesel

Notable comic coming Barstow

STAFF WRITER

BARSTOW • The stand-up comedy scene in Barstow is beginning to create a buzz, according to local comedian Charles Warren.

Warren, who goes by the stage name Chuck Diesel, is partnering up with Rosita’s Restaurant to bring actor and stand-up comic Gerry Bednob to Barstow on Feb. 22.

Bednob has had roles in several films including, “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Zack and Miri” and “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.” Bednob has also appeared on TV shows such as “Seinfeld” and “The Wonder Years.”

Warren will also perform, along with the other featured comic Rick Rome, and another local, Jared Martinez. Veteran comic Sam Ridley III is scheduled to be the host of the evening, Warren said.

According to Warren, Bednob will be the first “Hollywood-famed comedian” to come to the area.

“I talked to the owner of Rosita’s about it and he was interested, so after talking to Gerry he was totally in for coming out here and headlining,” Warren said. “Barstow is capable of doing so much; there’s so much more that people can have to do here. If something as little as a comedy show can provide some positive fun and laughs, why not do it? Everybody needs a laugh.”

Jerry Guardado, owner and manager of Rosita’s, said he and Warren are planning on bringing more headliners to Barstow in the future.

Guardado and Warren have put on shows at Rosita’s in the past, but none as big as this one. Guardado is hopeful that the venue, that seats up to 200 people, can come close to reaching capacity.

“We want to give the Barstow locals something to do,” Guardado said. “We’re going to try to bring other headliners, every two to three months, to kind of give people different options to do in town. It gives them a chance to get out and about locally.”

The doors open at 7 p.m., with the first comic set to take the stage at 8 p.m., Warren said. Since alcohol will be served, a 21-and-older age limit will be strictly enforced, Guardado said.

The restaurant will also serve food until 9 p.m.

The price of admission at the door is $12, but $10 pre-sale tickets will be on sale this weekend, and leading up to the event, at Rosita’s or by contacting Warren.

Warren said the $10 pre-sale price will be given at the door if this Desert Dispatch article is presented.

Rosita’s is located at 540 West Main Street. To contact Warren call 760-590-5147 or follow him on Facebook at Facebook.com/chuckdiesel and Twitter @ChuckDComedy.
