Barstow surprises Silverado in girls bball

BARSTOW • Mirion Mims’ big game with 22 points, 20 rebounds and five steals helped carry Barstow past Silverado in a girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Maxine Cooks added eight rebounds and three steals. Sisters Tieria and Vasa Alefio both grabbed eight rebounds. Vasa added six steals.

“We played a good game,” Barstow coach Jerry Enriquez said. “We played a complete game finally. Very proud of the girls.”

Barstow (13-10, 5-7 DSL) hosts Granite Hills on Thursday for senior night.

• SILVERADO 4, BARSTOW 1: At Victorville, senior Alan Manzo scored a hat trick on senior day to move the Hawks back up the Desert Sky League standings after suffering several forfeits due to ineligible players.

Daniel Saavedra scored Silverado’s other goal. Carolos Trujillo recorded two assists, and Joe Moreno and Daniel Lopez had an assist each. Goalkeeper Bryant Aguayo made three saves.

With the win Silverado (8-5-1 DSL) moved a point ahead of Barstow into second place. The Hawks close out the season with a game at Victor Valley on Thursday.
