Groups to hold AV fundraiser for Barstow girl
BARSTOW • Two local charities are teaming up for a fundraiser dedicated to 8-year-old Barstow girl Xena Janelle Begay, who is in need of a heart transplant.
The Mommies Helping Mommies Fund and Baking for Charities have collaborated to hold a bake sale Jan. 12 in Apple Valley.
The event will take place at 3D’s Baking for Charities, inside the Stater Bros. shopping center at 21560 Bear Valley Road. The bake sale will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“I just like helping people, and that’s what my group does; we help families in need,” said Wendy Wolf, manager at Mommies Helping Mommies.
Begay is currently waiting to be placed on the list to be eligible for a heart transplant, but her family needs help raising the money necessary to equip Begay’s home with a new central-air system. The swamp cooler currently installed at Begay’s home could cause health risks after the transplant, and single-mother Veronica Renteria can’t get Begay on the new transplant list until the new air system is installed.
