Military awards breakfast set for Tuesday
BARSTOW • The Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau is scheduled to host the Quarterly Military Awards Breakfast at the Hampton Inn on Tuesday.
According to Joseph Hisquierdo, Director of Public Relations for the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce, the breakfast will commence with Derrell Kemp, Military Affairs Committee Chairman, handing out the awards. Officers choose the recipients of the awards by selecting an individual for their dedicated services and standing out among their peers, Hisquierdo said.
A 15-minute report on the Affordable Care Act will be given by Barstow Community Hospital CEO Sean Fowler. Gaither Loewenstein, Economic Development and Planning Manager for the City of Barstow, will follow with an update on the city. Barstow Community College President/Superintendent Deborah S. DiThomas will close with an update on the college.
“It should be a jam-packed event this Tuesday,” Hisquierdo said. “We usually only have one or two speakers, (but there have been some) requests for city and college updates, so we would like to get these out together before the summer is over. This is one of the last chances we have, so it’s going to be a very informative meeting and we should have a good turnout.”
The event is open to the public, and Hisquierdo anticipates about 80 will attend the $10 awards breakfast. The event will take place at the Hampton Inn, located on 2710 Lenwood Road, from 8 to 9 a.m.
