Dunkin' Donuts opening in Barstow
Store will be second location in the state
BARSTOW • Dunkin’ Donuts will open its second store in California at Barstow Station on Nov. 1, according to Barstow Station co-owner Ben Rosenberg.
The coffee and baked goods chain will go inside the iconic Barstow building across from Panda Express and adjacent McDonald’s, Rosenberg said.
“We’re excited and we hope Barstow is excited,” Rosenberg said. “We already know by word of mouth and customers coming in and saying ‘Wow’ that they are (excited).”
Dunkin’ Donuts also announced plans to open multiple locations across Southern California by 2015, according to a Dunkin’ Donuts news release.
Rosenberg said that his brother Billy Rosenberg reached out to the Dunkin’ Donuts Corporation about coming to Barstow. The Rosenbergs share the same last name with Dunkin’ Donuts Founder William Rosenberg but share no familial ties as far as they know, they said.
“They came out here and liked the location,” Ben Rosenberg said. “Then they found a franchisee who is based out of Phoenix and we struck a deal.”
The first Dunkin’ Donuts in California is located inside the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in San Diego.
The Barstow Station is located on Main Street across from two Interstate 15 off-ramps and is a hub for freeway and bus travelers on their way to Las Vegas or Los Angeles. The station has been open since 1975, according to their website.
The brown wooden building with historic Santa Fe train car attachments is currently home to 10 other tenants including a Greyhound ticket terminal, souvenir shops, fast food restaurants, a liquor store and local radio stations the “Highway Stations” FM 98 or 99, “Highway Country” 107.3 FM and 101.5 FM, and “The Drive Highway Rock” 96.9 FM, 94.9 FM and 100.1 FM.
Dunkin’ Donuts company has more than 10,000 restaurants in 32 countries worldwide and had global franchisee-reported sales of approximately $6.4 billion in 2011, according to their website.
