BARSTOW • Spread out the length of a football field, a lot full of carnival rides and games near Ramada Inn on East Main Street this weekend will benefit Barstow youth and high school football programs.
For the second straight year, Butler Amusements is in charge, running the carnival through Sunday and providing the local football programs with 20 percent of sales revenue, according to Tex Williams, president of Barstow Youth Football.
The two sides agreed to a three-year deal to host the carnival at the current location under the terms, Williams explained.
“It’s the only time (Butler Amusements) has ever done this,” he added thankfully.
In the inaugural year, the football programs earned $11,000 from the carnival, Williams estimated — money to be spent on items integral to the programs such as equipment and lights.
With yearly expenditures upward of $52,000 for maintaining just the youth program, any extra revenue is welcomed, Williams said.
In addition to expressing gratitude toward Butler Amusements, Williams said Thursday that a host of others had worked to enable the carnival, including the city, Ben and Bill Rosenberg for donating the property and Burrtec for providing trash cans.
He also sought to show appreciation ahead of time to local businesses in the immediate area who may be impacted by an expected four-day spike in foot and vehicle traffic.
