Events at Barstow Senior Center
The Barstow Senior Center is holding its monthly membership meeting on Friday at 12:35 p.m. Guest speakers for this month will be Steve and Al, volunteers from the Barstow Police Dept. Citizens on Patrol Program (COP). They will be discussing what type of services the COP volunteers do for the community and what they can assist you in as an active part of the Barstow Community. They will also have applications on hand in case you would like to become a part of this group of volunteers. Also the Barstow Police Dept. will be providing one of their Police Dispatchers to answer your questions — “What happens when you make that 911 phone call”. Come early and have lunch. The Mojave Valley Carvers get together from 8 to 11 a.m. Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Stuffed bell pepper, Au Gratin potatoes, carrots, garlic bread and apricots.

Friday Night Dinner
American Legion Post 751 in Newberry Springs, 30919 Newberry Road, will be serving a chicken fried steak or chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, with Coleslaw, and roll. Donation is $7. For information, 760-257-3173.

St. Paul’s Academy enrollment
St. Paul’s Academy (7th through 9th grade) will be accepting enrollments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon, at 516 E. Williams St., or by appointment. Please call 760-256-4400 for an appointment or information. Scholarships are available. Space is limited.


Mountain hike
On Saturday, join other hikers for a moderate 10 to 11 mile hike from Fawnskin along the PCT to Cougar Crest. This is a great hike through beautiful forested areas of the San Bernardino Mountains with terrific views of Big Bear Lake. Bring 2 to 3 quarts of water, sturdy boots and lunch/snacks. Meeting at the BLM parking lot on south Barstow Road at 6:45 a.m. and then at 8 a.m. in Fawnskin at the parking lot across from the fire station. Solar Cooking
The Desert Discovery Center, 831 Barstow Road, is offering a solar cooking workshop from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. This two hour class will show you how to construct your own inexpensive solar cooker and delicious recipes. Fee is $6 per person. For information, call 760-220-4351.

Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet
Barstow Mall is holding a craft fair and swap meet every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is free for non-profit organizations and all others are $5 for one spot or $10 for two spots. Saturday Night Cruisers
Bring your car and join the Saturday Night Cruisers every Saturday at 7 p.m. at Foster Freeze, 1580 W. Main St. For information, call 760-964-3777.

Karaoke at Eagles Lodge
The Eagles Lodge, 513 E. Main St., features Karaoke every Saturday at 8 p.m. All are welcome.

Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs, will hold bingo the first and second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play starting at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The more in attendance, the bigger the jackpots.


Dinner at the NBSSC
The Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, will be serving pot roast, potatoes, carrots, salad, dessert, and beverage for a donation of $7 for adults and $3.50 for children on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. Members, show your card to receive a dollar off.
