Newberry Springs readies for 16th annual Pistachio Fest
The 16th annual Pistachio Festival is set to showcase growers’ pistachio nuts from across the desert on Saturday.
Co-organizer Sandi Brittian said she’s expecting at least 26 local growers to bring their pistachio harvest to the festival.
The festival will showcase the growers’ variety of flavored pistachio nuts.
“Newberry Springs is known for our pistachios,” Brittian said. “And our pistachios taste better than all the others because our farms are on wells and there are no chemicals used to grow them.”
While the pistachio will be the showcase item, the festival will also feature live music from the Mainstream Band, a book signing from a Route 66 mystery author and various food and crafts vendors. Brittian said the band is a yearly fixture for the festival and usually begins rocking the stage at noon.
The festival is put on by the Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce and is co-sponsored by the San Bernardino County, Southern California Edison and Newberry Community Services District.
The festival begins at 9 a.m. at the Newberry Community Center and Park at 30884 Newberry Road. Admission is free. For more information, call 760-257-1072 or visit www.pistachiofestival.info.
