NEWBERRY SPRINGS — Two men were arrested on suspicion of stealing vehicles and live ammunition Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. 

A 2 p.m. deputies from the Barstow Sheriff's Station conducted a pedestrian check in 34700 block of Hampshire Road in Newberry Springs. Two men, later identified as Joseph Trexler, 37, and Edward Barriere, 68, both from Newberry Springs, were contacted and Trexler was found to have a felony warrant out for his arrest and was detained.

Deputies found the vehicle both men were working on was reported stolen from Hesperia and the trailer behind the truck was also reported stolen from Barstow, officials said.

Deputies then contacted the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT) to assist in the investigation and acquired a search warrant.

Through further investigation, several other stolen vehicles and property were located, authorities said. Both Trexler and Barriere were found to have live ammunition and a large military ordinance also was recovered, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Department's Bombs and Arson team responded to the location and removed the ordinance.

Trexler and Barriere were arrested and booked on suspicion of possession of stolen vehicles, possession of stolen property and felon in possession of ammunition.
