BARSTOW — A Barstow man accused of exposing his genitals and then masturbating while on an Internet video chat application posted bail Thursday morning, booking records show.
Barstow police arrested Matthew Jordan Murphy on Wednesday after receiving a report of indecent exposure earlier this week.
Police said the mother of a 10-year-old girl reported that her daughter was a victim of indecent exposure. The mother told police that her daughter had been communicating with a man via an Internet video chat application, police said.
The man was identified as Murphy, 30, an acquaintance of the victim’s family, police said.
During a video chat between the two on Feb. 28, police say Murphy exposed his genitals to the victim and was observed masturbating.
The girl used a cell phone to take pictures of Murphy’s alleged actions and immediately told her mother about the incident.
The girl’s mother notified police the following day and turned the images over to police.
A detective contacted Murphy at his home in the 1800 block of Sunset Street, on Tuesday and he was arrested after police obtained additional evidence indicating he exposed himself to the girl.
Murphy was arrested and booked High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, booking records show. Murphy did not have a court appearance scheduled, according to booking records.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the BPD Det. Keith Libby at 760-255-5134. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the WE-TIP hotline at 800-78-CRIME.
