BARSTOW
• With the league season winding down, the Barstow boys basketball team is still in the hunt for a possible Desert Sky League Championship.

The Aztecs led the entire game against Victor Valley Tuesday night, jumping out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter and cruising to a 64-44 home win.

The Aztecs (12-9, 8-4 DSL) entered Tuesday's DSL showdown needing a win to keep their hopes for a league title alive.

Victor Valley won the previous two meeting between the schools this season, downing the Aztecs 65-59 on Dec. 17 in Barstow, and taking a 76-68 win in Victorville Jan. 16.

"We didn't turn the ball over, that was the biggest difference," Barstow coach Prestonn Biggs said. "The first two games (against Victor Valley) we had about 25 or 30 turnovers.

The Jackrabbits (14-7, 9-3 DSL) came into Tuesday tied with Silverado for first place in the DSL. The league schedule closes with a matchup between the Hawks and Jackrabbits at Victor Valley on Feb. 13.

Barstow junior guard Jalen Gallegos was one of four Aztecs to score in double digits, ending the gam with 10 points, two rebounds and three steals.

"I really like the way Jalen played off the bench," Biggs said. "I think this was the first time he's been in double digits scoring, and this style really fit him. He really gave us a lot of energy off the bench. I think that was a big part of the game.

Senior forward Joseph Boston added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Barstow.
