BUENA PARK The Barstow Superstar Shining Stars cheerleading squad placed first in the Sharp International Cheer Competition at Knott's Berry Farm on March 23. It's the second year in a row the Shining Stars have captured the top spot in the competition.

The girls competed against four other teams and took first in the elementary large division. The Stars also took second and third place in the jump category, and third in the stunt category.

The Shining Stars consist of 21 girls ranging in age from 7-11 and are coached by Britney Gray, with volunteer help from Barstow High School student Danielle Escalante and all the cheer parents. All the girls' hard work paid off again with another great cheer season and tournament win.

The Shining Stars will next be attending the National Title Competition on April 20 in Las Vegas. Sponsors and donations are being sought to pay the fees for each girl and the team.

A new cheer season will start soon, with sign-ups at the Cora Harper Community Center starting in June. For more information on sign-ups or sponsorships, call 760-577-7621.
