BARSTOW The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office filed robbery and assault charges against an 18-year-old Wednesday in connection with his role in the theft of two skateboards earlier this week, court records show.

Kimona Magalogo Jr. is scheduled to appear in Barstow Superior Court on Tuesday, facing charges of two counts of robbery and two counts of assault by any means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, according to court records.

During his arraignment Wednesday, Magalogo Jr. pleaded not guilty.

At 6:46 p.m. on Monday, the mother of two boys, ages 15 and 13, called police to report that at least two other kids had tried to jump her sons and a friend who were riding skateboards near Bank of America on Main Street, Barstow Police Lt. Mike Hunter said, citing an officer's report.

After her sons ran off, the mother drove a vehicle to find them a short time later behind Main St. Fitness, where they had been beaten up and robbed of their skateboards, Hunter said.

The whereabouts of the friend were unknown.

Police combed the area and detained Magalogo Jr. and a 13-year-old juvenile in the 200 block of Hutchinson Street. The victims were taken there and identified the two as the suspects, Hunter said.

The skateboards were also recovered at that scene, Hunter said.

Officers arrived at the residence of the two boys at approximately 8:05 p.m. for follow-up investigation and it was then determined they needed medical attention, according to Hunter.

Both boys were taken to Barstow Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Hunter said.

It's currently unclear how many suspects were involved, but a third person with Magalogo Jr. was not named as a third suspect, according to Hunter.

It's also unclear if the victims had called on their mother for help or if she was already in the area with them.

Magalogo Jr. was arrested at 7:24 p.m. and booked early the following morning into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of $100,000 bail, arrest records show.

The juvenile was arrested for robbery and booked into San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall in Apple Valley, Hunter said.
